Isn’t water damage from fire sprinklers just as bad as the fire damage?

No, water damage from fire sprinklers is much less than most people think. A Typical sprinkler discharges 50 litres per minute. A fire fighting hose discharges over 1000 litres per minute. With a sprinkler system fire damage can be limited to less than 5% compared to a total loss should a fire develop unchecked. In a modern fire sprinkler system the sprinkler heads only activate where the fire is so there is no water damage to areas of the building that were unaffected by the fire.
